Dear 3E2:

By now, most of you should have gotten your report books and although many of you are still going for some lessons in school, the holidays have already begun. While it would be great to relax and socialize with friends, it would also be a good time to reflect on your performance and plan for your O-levels. Try to take the time to do research about which courses you are interested in after your Os, so that when the new year begins, you will have a clear target to work towards.

It was a great year with you guys. Although there were times when I had to discipline some of you, it has been a pleasure being the form teacher of this noisy vibrant and motivated class. I enjoyed many of our class interactions and lessons, which reflected your diversity and intelligence. I have also benefited from the discussions and conversations that we had in the Humanities SLC. Who says that only students can learn from teachers?

I do not know whether I'll be your form teacher again next year.Who can predict the future? As for now, enjoy your holidays, recharge your batteries and let's look forward to a fulfilling 2010!

Dear 3E2:

This morning when I was walking to school for the moderation meeting, I met a Sec One Yusoffian and even though I have never taught him before and I don't even know his name, we struck up a short conversation during which I discovered that he was involved in Drama Night and was going to school for extra training. "Work hard, because people are paying to watch you peform." I said. "That's what the instructor said too." He said with a grin.

This boy reminded me that the upcoming Drama Night is really about giving our Yusoffians a chance to perform in public and gain confidence in themselves. It is also a chance for our school spirit to grow as we support these Yusoffians by buying tickets and attending their performance. I know many of you all are not interested (as some of you have said so during yesterday's class interaction) and I can understand that. Some of you may feel that you are too cool for such things or that the school performance is not your problem as you have nothing to gain from it.

I'm sure you know that in the past three years, the school has worked very hard (through the efforts of the staff) to provide the resources for you to do well in your studies or render services for you when you need them. When the school needs your help, isn't it right for you to offer your support? If we manage to sell enough tickets, the hard work put in by our Yusoffian performers will be affirmed.

Now some of you may ask: "What has all this got to do with me?" More than four hundred years ago, a poet by the name of John Donne wrote:
No man is an island entire of itself; every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main; if a clod be washed away by the sea, Europe is the less, as well as if a promontory were, as well as any manner of thy friends or of thine own were; any man's death diminishes me, because I am involved in mankind. And therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls; it tolls for thee.
John Donne was basically trying to say that human beings cannot live in selfish isolation and that we are part of the human race. In the long run, anything that happens to one involves all. This is your school and you are part of the community. Our well-being is closely connected to the well-being of the community. If we are only concerned for our own self-interest, our community will diminish and we will diminish along with it. But they are those who refuse to do their part for the community but are very quick to criticize and judge when things don't go right...

I hope our class will support our Yusoffian community by purchasing more tickets for Drama Night and attending the performances to support the school, just as she has supported you by nurturing you. Please think over this. If you would like to purchase tickets for the Matinee show on October 30 (3:30pm), feel free to approach me. If you would like tickets for another time, you can find Mr Zainal at the GO.

HELLO dear E2!
EXAMS ARE FINALLY OVER! Other than the nerve-wrecking 2 day that's coming where we find out how WELL we did, it's time to partay and have our first class outing together! ^-^

I have 26 confirmed attendees (please, no backing out unless you have a really valid reason) plus 5 unconfirmed, and 7 not attending :)
I also have 8 confirmed staying over (if there are anymore interested ones, please tell me!).

I'll be asking our subject teachers to come too, but of course their attendence is subjected to how free they are on the day.
SPECIAL GUEST: MR PATRICK TAN! YAYE! :D

It is on 23 October, this coming Friday.

It is held at Goldkist Chalet, which is in East Coast Park.

Here are the list of buses you can take to get there:

o Buses Number -- 13,15,16,31,36 ,43,48,55,76,135,196,197,853,646
o From Orchard -- 16,36
o From Airport -- 36
o Bedok MRT -- 16,31,196,197
o Little India/Rochor -- 48
o Bugis 197

Take note, those buses DO NOT stop directly outside East Coast Park.
You will first stop off at Neptune Court.
Go through an Underpass (10min walk) then will you reach Goldkist Beach Resort.

Any additional info, please check their official website at http://www.goldkist.sg/

--

I will only get the room number on that day itself, so PLEASE KEEP YOUR HANDPHONES AT BAY, I'll SMS each and everyone of you.

At the same time, please remember to bring $10 on Tuesday (for the confirmed attendees).

Thank you!

Please try to reach the Chalet by 6PM. (you can come earlier if you fancy helping out or to cycle/rollerblade the area)
For the NPCC cadets who will be coming late (8 - 9PM), we hope you can make it there early! So sorry you guys have to rush here and there! many many loves and sorry.

The whole BBQ should end by 9.30 - 10PM.

For the people who are staying over, we have to check out by 11AM. I don't know what happens next, but we'll plan on that day :) Please remember to get permission from your parents!
On that day, please bring (FOR PEOPLE WHO'RE STAYING OVER ONLY):
- Extra clothes if you want to bathe
- More money for night activities, if possible :)
- Bring your own jacket
- Bring your own toiletries

--

There are some rules to the BBQ, Mr Lee had told me.
- No liquor/alcohol
- No gambling
(er if there is anymore feel free to edit and add, Mr Lee)

but of course the most important is to have fun :)

We'll be the seniors of the school by next year, and just imagine, exactly 365 days (and 1/4) from now, we'll be having our O levels examinations. Doesn't time pass fly by so fast?

It seems like just yesterday we were all in sec 1, undergoing adolescence, having our mini tiffs here and there, making some really good friends, and learning some good life experiences.

If this year was a bumpy road for you, tears breaking out, you having a dilemma between whether to play or to study, every papers seemingly to become longer and longer, and the time given to be shorter and shorter, next year will be a lot worse.

Learn from your mistakes this year, and make the best out of them next year.
Hope to still see the same faces next year!

Hope everyone had a great 5 day break from exams!
(I'm sure it felt weird waking up or to play a computer/watch a TV without worrying what subject you need to study today)
GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE FOR YOUR RESULTS!!!!
:)

HI :)

Just a reminder, please remember to complete Physics and E Maths homework, and be ready to hand it up to Ms Chia and Ms Yue when they're back on Tuesday!

Physics
Study
- Temperature
- Ripple Tank
- Waves
- Electromagnetic Waves
- Sound

Complete TYS
- Waves (Topic 12)
- Electromagnetic Waves (Topic 14)
- Sound (Topic 15)

E Maths
Please complete
- the first revision package worksheet given (which consists of Radians, Angle of Depression and Bearing if I'm not wrong),
- the second revision package (revision on indices and standard form) and
- the third revision package (revision on the chords/segments of a circle - please complete the two practice questions at the back of the given paper and refer to e maths TYS for the questions)

-

At the same time, please remember to complete your holiday homework for English (book review) and E Maths. You ought to have handed up your owed assignments for A Maths plus the holiday homework already :)

Chinese Band 1 students, remember to study for your oral next week.

Other than finishing up the new A Maths Chapter 8's homework, I think our other homework would be just to study.

Mug hard, be constant everyday like what Mr Wong keeps reminding us, and make sure the formulas are in your head everyday so you won't have to keep referring to your books and try to memorize them.

Tahan, for about three weeks of studying + exams, and it'll all be over.
There might be a possibility of a 3E2 Chalet, depending on your interests, plus the confirmed amount of attendees, so yaye everyone, let's work hard and enjoy later~!

Remember, the main thing isn't just about rewriting everything you see on the textbook/given notes, and doing them on a separate piece of book or paper to try to get it into your head as you write. The important thing is to understand what you're writing, and know how to answer the questions the moment you see it. This applies very strongly to Physics too, and of course the other subjects.

Do your best, even if you intend to drop that particular subject.
WE CAN DO IT!

gooooooooo architects!

Dear 3E2:

How is everyone? I hope you are all coping well. We have just passed the mid-term mark! Another five more weeks and Term 3 will be over.

Yesterday, I was at Kuo Chuan Presbyterian Secondary School for a teachers' conference and one of the speakers was a principal who mentioned that his school was working to help students "rise above their environment."

The phrase has remained in my mind and I find it very meaningful. We all come from different environments. Some are born rich while some have financial problems. Some come from highly educated families but some households are busy making ends meet.

Despite the diversity of our human condition, the beauty of being a human being is that we have the ability to rise above our environments. It is not that our lives are static. Our destiny is not carved in stone. We are able to change our lives with effort and discipline. With a positive attitude, it is possible to make something good of our lives.

Would you rather be a passive spectator of life or an active architect of your destiny?

The school motto of Kuo Chuan Presbyterian Secondary School.

Many of you work hard at your subjects and I'm glad to see that. But you must remember that the ultimate purpose of education is not to pass tests/exams or win your friends in the school/class rankings. The goal of education is to enable you to take charge of your destiny by giving you a "tool-box" of knowledge and skills. That is a wonderful thing, is it not? Maths and science helps to train your logical thinking. The humanities help you to appreciate nature and the heritage of our human civilization. Your language studies gives you the linguistic and literary skills to express yourself and communicate with others. Exams and tests train you to work under pressure. If you join a Club, Society or Uniform Group, you learn how to work with others in a disciplined environment to work for a common goal. You learn people skills. All these are valuable assets when you enter society next time.

Yes, I am aware that school is not always fun. Things are not always positive. But with the right attitude, you can even transform negative things into learning experiences. While trying to invent the light bulb, Thomas Edison failed a lot of times. But he didn't see these failures as something negative. He once said: "I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work."

So do make the most of your time in school and learn as much as you can, so that when you graduate, the tools you have acquired can help you to rise above your environment and make something purposeful of your life.

Till next time
